Keep Hydrants Accessible

Keep fire hydrants clear of snow! Make sure to remove snow and ice within a 3 foot perimeter of the hydrant, and clear a path to the street. This ensures it is readily accessible to firefighters in the event of an emergency and could be the difference between life or death.
Please remember that hydrants located on private property are the responsibility of the property owner.

Paxton Drill

Last night UAFD members went to HACC with the Engine and Truck to perform the “Paxton Drill”. This drill is to deploy as many ground ladders to windows of a building as fast as possible to rescue multiple victims. Teams of 2 paired up and were timed on how long it would take to reach the 7 victims.

The “Paxton Drill” comes from the 1993 Paxton Hotel fire in Chicago where 19 people were killed but nearly 100 were rescued by the Chicago Fire Department as they ran around throwing ground ladders to windows, ledges, and the rooftop.
