May 11, 2007: Several hours after a strong thunderstorm passed through the area, the UAFD was dispatched around 0215 hours for a reported barn fire on Fishers Run Road (York County, Monaghan Twp.). Engine 223 (Mechling) and Tanker 23 (Kremer) went responding together as Chief 223 (Shumberger) arrived on scene to confirm a fully involved barn. Engine 223 arrived as the first due engine and layed-in from a nearby pond. Crews began a defensive attack with the wagon pipe and a tail gun off of the Engine’s tank water, as Tanker 23 arrived and supplied the Engine. Engine 67 (Monaghan) picked up the supply line and proceeded to set up a draft at a nearby pond. After the bulk of the fire was knocked down in a short time, crews began overhauling what remained of the structure. All units cleared returned to service after being out for about 3 hours.
