July 8, 2007: The Department was dispatched to a deck fire this afternoon. Units arrived on scene to find the homeowners and neighbors had put out the blaze with extinguishers and garden hoses. The homeowner had been cooking on the back deck. After sitting down to enjoy the meal, they noticed smoke blowing by the front windows. They discovered the tanbark, several bushes and decking materials had ignited and was beginning to melt the siding. Firefighters checked for extension and performed overhaul on the charred materials.
