National Firefighter Health Week

August 14, 2007: This week marks the first ever National Firefighter Health Week. According to their website, “The National Volunteer Fire Council (NVFC), through its groundbreaking Heart-Healthy Firefighter Program, will be reaching out through a week-long initiative to educate both the fire and emergency services community and the public not only on heart-health, but on a variety of other health and wellness issues.”

Heart disease is the number one killer of firefighters in the United States. That’s correct. More firefighters die of heart attacks than are killed by fire, smoke, accidents or entrapments in burning structures! Like the public that we serve, we need to take the time to get regular check ups, eat healthy and exercise.

Please vist the NVFC website for more information or see your medical provider.
