Holiday Decorations

December 17, 2008: Here are some good tips regarding the use of holiday decorations from the U.S. Fire Administration:

“All decorations should be nonflammable or flame-retardant and placed away from heat vents. Never put wrapping paper in a fireplace. It can result in a very large fire, throwing off dangerous sparks and embers that may result in a chimney fire. If you are using a metallic or artifical tree, make sure it is flame retardant.” Also remember that decorations and holiday plants can be harmful to pets if they are ingested. Keep decorations high on the tree, out of reach, and plants off the floor.

Great live trees are still available at the fire station on Gettysburg Pike. We’ll have at least one more day of fresh trees this weekend. Call the station at 697-9595 if you have any questions.
