Safe Holiday Lights

December 12, 2008: In our continuing effort to keep your holidays safe, we offer the following safety tips for holiday lighting, as provided by the U.S. Fire Administration.

“Inspect your holiday lights each year for frayed wires, bare spots, gaps in the insulation, broken or cracked sockets, and excessive kinking or wear before putting them up. Use only lighting listed by an approved testing laboratory. Do not link more than three light strands, unless directions indicate it is safe. Connect strings of lights to an extension cord before plugging the cord into the outlet. Make sure to periodically check the wires – they should not be warm to the touch. Do not leave holiday lights on while unattended.”

Trees are still available everyday, now until December 24th. Stop by and pick yours out today. Most trees are only $30! A great bargain and you’ll be helping out the local volunteers. Don’t forget about the annual visit from Santa tomorrow, Saturday December 13. He arrives on the fire engine around 11:00 am and has lots of goodies for the children.
