Lightening Strike

April 21, 2009: As a thunderstorm was passing through the area, the UAFD, along with Mechanicsburg units were dispatched for a reported house fire in the area of the 100 block of Round Ridge Road in the township around 17:10. Chief 23 arrived on scene to find a light smoke condition showing from the exterior and the resident saying that the house was struck by lightening and that the kitchen was on fire. Engine 223 arrived on scene and laid a supply line and stretched an attack line to the kitchen. Once inside the crew encountered a smoke condition and the stove on fire and starting to extend the cabinets and wall. The crew was quickly able to knock the fire down with a water can with a minimal amount of extension. Truck 23 arrived on scene and secured the utilities and did a search of the home and found several wall boxes that had been scorched as well as one that was completely blown out of the wall. The crews from Rescue 27 assisted the Truck crew with opening the walls up to check for extension while the crew of Engine 128 staged. Units went available after operating for about an hour.
