Upper Allen Fire Department

It was a busy day/night for UAFD. Just before 2am, we were dispatched to a barn fire in Monroe Twp. Tanker 23 (crew of 2) assisted with rural water supply. Squad 23 (crew of 6) manned the scene as the rapid intervention team (RIT). Utility 23 (crew of 2) brought more manpower. Traffic 23 (crew of 3) assisted with traffic control. All units were cleared just after 7am.

Today at 1638 hours, UAFD was alerted to a working house fire in the 1700 block of Springwillow Drive. Units arrived on scene to find a fire in the rear corner of the home. There was also significant smoke damage. We were assisted on the scene by Cumberland Cty. companies 29, 12, 25, 13, 33, 37, Traffics 23 and 30, York Cty. companies 68 and 69 and UAPD.

Thanks to the crew and engine from Co. 17 in Enola for transferring to our station to cover the township while our department was commited the house fire.

During our Tuesday night training, UAFD worked on ATV operations lead by our Engineer/firefighter Hess. We went over how to hook up the ATV trailer to the Utility and haul it to a scene. The mission was to find a “missing hiker.” The crew assembled the ATV’s equipment on its own smaller trailer and took off searching. Once they found the victim, who had fallen down a small embankment into an overgrown area, they brought them out and loaded them onto the trailer which has walking axles so the patient stays relatively level with the ground as the wheels walk over obstacles.

After the evolution, members who weren’t experienced with the ATV got to do some driver training with it.

Last evening for our weekly training, we took advantage of the summer weather and headed to the creek! Members took turns learning how to draft water from the Yellow Breeches and ensure adequate pressure for the deck gun.
